Intro

The night started out normally enough. There were 10 investigators in total, so needless to say, the scene was quite hectic. After a nice meet and greet, we entered the building, located in the heart of Historic Lehi. Gathered around the lounge area, we began to discuss where to set up our equipment. Cameras were placed in the Native American Room, Conference Room, and Lounge aimed in the direction of the Pioneer Room. Along with cameras, there were some Digital Voice Recorders left in the Native American Room and elsewhere in the building.

  1. Jacob and his mom Camille, along with Lori and Myself, began walking down the west corridor which connects the North and South wings of the buildings. Immediately, our EMF detector began to go crazy. Trying desperately to find the source of the fluctuations, we paced up and down the hall. The readings were so spastic, it was impossible to trace. One second they would be in one place, the next, another. Strangely enough, the magnetic field seemed to be floating. When aimed at the ceiling there would be nothing. The same goes for when aimed towards the floor. Since we were not able to figure out the source, we headed towards the next room.
  2. Next, we made our way towards the Native American room. In previous investigations, there had been EVP recordings of tribal chants and drumbeats. This seemed like a great place to head next. Upon entering the room, the EMF readings were still going crazy. There was an IR (infrared) camera on the south side of the room; this can make a detector go off. While that explains why the detector was going crazy on that side, it does not explain it going off in other parts of the room. Notable was the grass skirt of a Native American ceremonial gown. When the EMF was near this relic, it went off. After maybe a minute, however, it stopped. The readings were so strong, then it completely vanished.

Investigation

After we were all settled in, we gathered the troupes and got into our groups.

Group 1- *Michelle, *Amber, Jacob and Mom (narrative)
Group 2- Adam, *Angie
Group 3- Jim, Janis, Lindsay
Group 4- Lyddia, *Trevor

Basement

The group I was part of decided to go down into the basement. We settled into the northwest side and decided to do some EVP work. During this time, I went around the room to get some base readings. Apart from some obvious electrical sources, the room was pretty quiet. Michelle and Lori then came down and explored the northeast part of the business. One thing that was somewhat strange, but more the less explainable, was the alarm system. It would go off sporadically and give us a good jump. The sound was just a couple sequential beeps. Apart from that, the basement had an unexpected comfortable feeling.

Sensing nothing out of the norm, we headed to the southeast room. West of this room was a great boiler room. Needless to say, the noise level was quite high. We tried more EVP work, but again, there was nothing unusual about the place, other than louder than normal noise pollution. We decided to head back upstairs at this point, as there was another group coming down to investigate.

Corridor, Pioneer Room and Jail Cells

Once we were upstairs, we headed toward the Pioneer Room and jail cells. To get there, we needed to go through the same corridor where EMF readings were through the roof (see above). From this point, things began getting strange. The field readings were still going crazy. Almost exactly like the time before, we could not trace the source. After a couple of minutes of fluctuations, I decided to ask some questions. Seeing, if it were an intelligent spirit, if it would respond to requests. “If this is a Spirit causing the field readings, could you cause the meter to beep again?” It did what I asked. Completely bemused, I asked for it to do the opposite. Surprisingly, it did. We lingered in the corridor for approximately 5 to 10 minutes before we headed down to the Pioneer Room. The detector was still off the charts.

To get to the Pioneer Room, you need to go down a small set of stairs. As we were going through these, the detector was still going strong. Once in the Pioneer Room, there would be pockets where there were no readings whatsoever. Then, in the same spot, it would start beeping again. Strangely, the detector was not consistent. One second it would go crazy in one spot, the next it would be dead quiet, in the exact same spot. After doing a general sweep, we went into a jail cell. Frankly, it was quite nice to get away from the incessant beeping of the EMF detector. Unfortunately, that was not the case for long. Within seconds of entering, the room grew loud with the chirping noise we had become so accustomed to. The room is quite small, only fitting two cells. The jail is fully enclosed with solid brick. The idea of wires penetrating the miniature fortress is preposterous. Again, we were faced with the question “where on earth are these readings coming from?”

At this point, there was nothing we could do further in the jail cell. We decided to head back into the adjacent Pioneer Room to see if we could further investigate the odd fluctuations. Yet again, the room was flooded with the sound of “beep-beep, beep-beep”. It was hard to find a pocket of silence. We circled the room, again looking for a source. However, as time after time proved, it was futile. We decided to find a place where the detector was actually quiet and set it down. Once we found a place, we conspired to settle in and sit for a while. The place that was chosen for the detector was a large glass cabinet holding artifacts. As we sat, watching, the device would flick off and on. The decision was made to set the voice recorder over by the EMF detector. Almost like déjà vu, we began asking the same questions that seemed to escape our lips time after time. Jacob, who is nine years old, began asking questions. For unknown reason, the device seemed to take a liking to him. When asked a question, it would flicker rapidly, seemingly in response to our queries. The more personal the question, the more the detector would flicker, faster and faster with every question. The noise level in the room began to increase due in part with the other groups heading our way. It was our time to head out to the next place.

Upstairs Office and Library

As we left, the noises we were so accustomed to began to die down. As we passed through the corridor, there was an unusual silence. Moments before, the hall was laden with the sound of our detector. Whatever was going on earlier had now dissipated. Now we were on our way upstairs. At the first landing there is a small enclave of display cases and a wall filled with pictures of officers. Despite being quite warm, there was nothing odd about that level.

Upward still we went. At the very top was a large open room. In the room were long tables, as well as a small library. There is a small closet filled with paintings, among other things. Walking around, the air felt stiff, hot. At one point, there was a moment where the EMF readings began fluctuating. I turned in a clockwise circle trying to follow whatever it was. As quick as it came, it left. There was nothing here. We left after a short period of time.

Animal and Mineral Display Rooms

Upon entering the Bird Display Room, the motion sensor lights turned on. Because of this, we stayed just to take a quick glance. From here we entered the Sea Animal Room. Again, the display cases were riddled with motion sensors. Any slight movement and lights would be on. There was no activity what so ever in either of these rooms. Even our noisy little friend, the EMF detector was quiet. On a side note, it is very strange that the detector did not go off in a room that was laden with electricity. We had no control over the motion sensors, yet there were absolutely no sign of any fluctuations. However, earlier on the south side of the building, we could not get the detector to shut up. Despite having no activity, our venture to the north side of the building proved to be important.

We headed into the Mineral Room. There were a couple rogue fluctuations, but nothing that could not be traced to some form of electricity. We decided to go back into the Sea Creatures Room and try to get the lights to turn off. Unfortunately, we did not get that to happen. It was time to move on.

Last Ditch Efforts, Wrapping Things Up

At this point, there was not much left to do. As a group, we went back to the place where all the insanity started. While walking down the hall, there were still no signs of any electromagnetic field. After an absence of over an hour, we treaded back into the Pioneer Room. An hour prior, there had been a plethora of activity. Now it was just an empty room with priceless artifacts. Trying to coax the spirits out, we put the detector into the jail cell. The questions began pouring out of our mouths. This time, there were no responses. Whatever was so adamant to communicate was gone. We headed back to the main floor.

After 30 minutes of fruitless efforts, and an outside excursion to take pictures, we began to wrap up the investigation. There were many questions still on our minds after this one. Where did all of the fluctuations come from? Was it natural? Was someone trying desperately to communicate? It is hard to tell either way. All I know is that there were some readings that were completely off the charts. They could not be traced to the floor, the walls or the ceilings in some, if not most places. An hour later, there was absolutely no readings to be had.

Needless to say it was an interesting night.
